National agency of research

The National agency of Research (ANR) is a public corporation in administrative matter (decree 2006-963 of the 2006) charged, in France, to finance research projects. It was created on February 7th 2005 (initially in the form of a Groupement of public interest) by the Gouvernement Dominique de Villepin.

It was created within the framework of the reform of the French effort of research and has vocation to become an actor of French research foreground, transverse with the research organizations public, like CNRS, INSERM, ECA or the universities.
Its goal is to finance research in France as well public as private. Its detractors (in particular association Let us save research) reproach him inter alia, not to have a scientific advice.
