National Weather Service
The National Weather Service ( NWS ) is the weather service of the the United States of America. It is one of the six scientific services which compose the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the government agency in load of research and the monitoring of the atmosphere and the oceans on all the American territory.
The NWS is more specifically in load of research on the atmospheric phenomena, the forecast of the time, the studies climatological and the hydrological. It east emits the weather and hydrological alert days before and to inform the population of the danger imminants and made studies on the change of the climate. The NWS is divided into 4 administrative areas and comprises 122 local offices of forecast Co-localized with the sites of launching of Radiosondage. The rendered services are free according to the policy of the US government.
History
As of the beginnings of British colonization, observations of time are taken by the navigators and the explorers of what would become the United States. Among the Fathers of the Union, Thomas Jefferson was an avid experimenter and bought its first thermometer and barometer at a few days to sign the Déclaration of Independence and foot-note in its notebooks that the temperature with Philadelphia on July 4th, 1776 was of 76 °F (24.4 °C).
At the beginning of the 19th century, the measuring instruments had existed for more than one hundred years but the means of transmitting information to long distances in real-time did not exist what prevented from differently conceiving the data acquisition than for ends climatological. The Télégraphe changed that. In 1849, the Smithsonian Institution provided weather measuring instruments to the telegraphic companies what allowed to quickly cover the territory of 150 stations.
The Weather Office , its original name, was placed under the direction of the Ministry for the war of 1870 to 1891 because it was the organization having the wide-area network of station through the country and because of its strategic importance. Its general headquarter was with Washington D.C and the majority of the stations of data were in the east of Rocky Mountains. The Weather forecasting at that time consisted in observing time and taking for asset which it would find without change in the areas downstream. The use of the telegraph to communicate information was crucial.
In 1891, Weather Bureau was transferred to the ministry for agriculture ( Agriculture Department ). As of this moment, the Bureau begins an embryo of research in meteorology. The secretary with agriculture (minister), R.G. Dyrenforth, requires of him to test on the Modification of time. He wants that one produce explosions starting from balloons in order to increase the rain, probably influenced by the reports/ratios on the anti-hail guns coming from Europe
