National Space Science Dated Center
The National Space Science Dated Center (NSSDC) is a service of division Exploration of the Solar system of NASA with for role filing the scientific data collected during the missions of NASA. These data are as well raw data (like statements of instruments) that Image S.
All the data of the NSSDC are in free access and of the Public domain.
History
Created in 1966, the NSSDC is located at the Goddard Space Flight Center with Greenbelt in the State of the Maryland. The majority of the personnel of the NSSDC is composed of physicists, data processing specialists, analyst, developers and technicians specialized in the data processing.
The first memory supports was of the magnetic bands of the type 7 track and 9 track, of the photographs Argentique S like various other supports like the Papier. Since the medium of the Years 1980, the data are digitized and made available on line through Internet or distributed on CD-ROM.
Master Catalog
The NSSDC Master Catalog (NMC) is a database in line and public counting all the space engines, which they are NASA or not. Information available is various types and goes from the launch date, with the results obtained while passing by a description of the space engine.A single identifier, the International Designator (NSSDC ID), is allotted to each indexed machine and whose launching was a success. NSSDC ID is composed of the years of launching on four figure, of an indent followed by a number on three digits representing the number of launching succeeded in the year. A letter in capital letter follows this number and represents the sequence of launching. Fallen through launchings have an arbitrary identifier, like that for Vanguard SLV 1 (VAGSL1) of May 27th, 1958.
As example, the first Artificial satellite Sputnik, launched on October 4th, 1957, with the identifier 1957-001B and its launcher the identifier 1957-001A. Has means that this machine was used to transport Sputnik. For the Long Duration Exposure Facility, an artificial satellite which lodged several experiments of long life, it with the identifier 1984-034B and the shuttle Challenger which transported it the number 1984-034A. One knows thus that they is the thirty the fourth launching succeeded of the year 1984.
