The “ National Physical Laboratory ” established in Teddington in Middlesex since 1900 is the English national laboratory for measurements.

The NPL carries out research to the measures, physics and the science of materials, gives its support for the settling of measuring instruments and provides the means and measuring rods of calibration.

Its reputation comes mainly from the quality of the research tasks carried out throughout the 20th century. Among the many ones and famous researchers, the NPL accommodated Alan Turing.
