National Geographic Society is an American company , created the January 13rd 1888. The purpose of it is the development and the dissemination of the geographical information. In October of the same year, the first Magazine National Geographic is published.
Since its creation, the company finances good number of projects of discovered or of research through all planet and reports the strong points in its monthly magazine of them.
More 8 000 forwardings and of subjects of research, such is the number of the projects supported since its creation by the National Geographic Society whose interest goes from the study of the oceans and the high mountains to the ethnology and archeology. It made a contribution essential to our current knowledge of the ground, seas and Universe. Each subscriber with the magazine is regarded as being member of the company.
Today, the magazine is translated in various languages, of which the French and the German .
The “national Geographic Society” also launched in 1997 a chain of Télévision: the National Geographic Chanel available on the cable networks and sattelite.
In addition, it organizes since 1993 an international compétion of geography for the young people, the National Geographic World Championship.
