National Files Association
The National Riffle Association ( NRA ) is an association of the the United States in favor of the firearms, in the past chaired by Charlton Heston which is now honorary member with life. It defends the drive with survival, competences of shootings, and the sports of shootings. They are made the defenders of the owners of Arme S. the organization were established in the State of New York in 1871 and assert more than four million members. The NRA is often presented in the form of a oldest organization of the civil laws in the USA, by defining the possession of weapons like a civil law protected by the Bill off Rights.
Political lobby
The NRA is regarded by much as being one of most influential the lobbies political of the USA because of its capacity to regularly providing a great number of votes the day of the elections. However, in spite of the main efforts of the NRA, the lobbies anti-arm accompanied the birth by the laws by restrictions by firearms. These laws go from the quasi total prohibition of the firearms to Washington DC, until the setting out the law of whole classes of firearms in much of States as well as at the federal level and until the regulation by the establishment of license near certain jurisdictions. The NRA is opposed to the creation of new laws against the wearing of weapon in favor of the reinforcement of the existing laws which prohibit to the people condemned or imprisoned to have a firearm, who reinforce the judgments for the crimes with firearm, and who facilitate the formalities which make it possible to obtain a gun license hidden (as in many States).
Current campaigns
In 2003, the NRA concentrates its efforts at the federal level on:- To encourage the Congress to vote a law which would protect the manufacturers from weapons of certain types of lawsuit. Proposal S.659/S.1806, or “Protection off Lawful Commerce in Arms Act” (“ Act on the protection of the legal trade of the weapons ”) is also supported by the Chamber of commerce of the United States, the National Association off Manufacturers ( National association of the manufacturers ), and the National Association off Wholesaler-Distributers ( National association of the distributers of detail ). The NRA found the opposition of many groups favorable to the control of the weapons. The proposal was pushed back the March 2nd 2004, after the Senate had added amendments there to extend the prohibition of rifles of attack and to close again a weakness of the known law as the “gun-show loophole” (“ weakness of the exposure of the weapons ”). The NRA modified its position and was opposed to the proposal after the addition of these two amendments. They must still be presented to the vote with the Senate to be able to have the force of law.

to be opposed to the lobby control of the weapons which tries to widen and to authorize again a law of 1994 which prohibited many semi-automatic rifles and certain standard chargers (who retain the cartridges which were not drawn). This law of 1994 expired in 2004. On the contrary, the lobby of the control of the weapons made a point of extending these prohibitions and of making them permanent.
History of the NRA
The NRA was created shortly after the American Civil War by officers of the Army of the Union dismayed in front of the little of competences in handling of the weapons by the soldiers of the Union during the war.
Programmes of safety of the firearms of the NRA
The NRA defends a broad spectrum of program for the safety of the firearms by education and by encouraging a careful use of the firearms. Association distributes for example a video entitled “Eddie Eagle” for the children invites the young spectator with “Stop! Does not touch there! Leave from here! Speak with an adult! ” if the child sees a weapon which trails. The NRA affirms that the program “Eddie Eagle” reduces the accident risks by firearms to the house; the program is used in the schools a little everywhere with the the United States. Its adversaries, in spite of the convincing results, refuse this assertion and show such a video to take part in a program “of endoctrination” of the children to a “culture of the weapons”. The NRA also offers courses on safety to hunting as well for the children as for the adults.
Sports of shooting
In the past, as of its creation, the NRA ensured the promotion of the sports of shooting the the United States. These last years, their role in the sport really decreased. In 1992, the NRA lost its role of National Governing Body (or federal regulator) for the shooting and the shooting of competition (the USA Shooting is now the NGB) and, in 2000, the NRA chose not to be member of the National Three-Position Air Files Council. Moreover, the competitions organized by the NRA are considered second-rate in compraison with those organized either by the USA Shooting or by the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The NRA does not have a role in the competitions of gun organized by the International Practical Shooting Confederation and the International Defensive Pistol Association, or in the activities of shooting of action of cowboy ; these two types of events took much importance these last years.Currently, the NRA publishes its own payments, maintains a file of the classifications of gunners and results of matches. Via NRA Foundation (the Foundation of the NRA) and of Friends off NRA (friends of the NRA), the NRA collects also funds which make it possible to finance local clubs.
The USA were decorated with gold (with equality) to the Olympic Games 2004, for the shooting.
Second Amendment
In its actions of lobbying for the rights of the weapons, the NRA affirms that the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States guarantees the right of the individuals to hold and use firearms. The NRA is opposed typically to any measurement of which she thinks that she would be in contradiction with this Amendment of the “right to carry a firearm” or with the right to preserve the private life of the owners of firearms which respect the law. The NRA was also opposed to the control of the firearms on the basis of other argument - for example, they fought the Brady Bill in front of justice on the basis of Amendment 10th.
Publications
The NRA publishes the magazines America' S 1st Freedom and American Rifleman (ISO 0003083X) as well as many books.
Criticisms
This organization was criticized by the partisans of the control of the firearms for its policy on the control of the weapons which is - according to its criticisms - too laxist. It is the case of Michael Moore in her documentary Bowling for Columbine. Moreover, certain Americans who absolutely defend the harbor due of weapon for the citizens also criticized the NRA of the other edge by explaining that it supports laws which restrict their access to the firearms.
