The National Climatic Data Center ( NCDC ) from the the United States, founded in 1951, located at Asheville in North Carolina is the most important world center of data-gathering weather .

The center has more than 150 years of filed data and receives each day more than 224 Gigabyte S of new information. The NCDC files 99 pourcent data of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), including more than 320 million files paper; 2.5 million Microfiche S; and more than 1.2 Petabyte S of digital data. The NCDC has images of Satellite weather going back to 1960.

The data come from very many sources, satellites, Radar, weather stations terrestrial, observatuer of the National Weather Service, Avion S, ships, Radiosonde S, profileurs of winds, recorders of solar radiations and the services of weather forecasting.

The Center provides historical prospects concerning the Climat which are essential with the study of the Climate change. It preserves data essential for the Industrie, the Agriculture, the Hydrologie, the transport, the Loisir S.
