National Association off Base Players Ball
The National Association off Base Ball Players (NABBP) was the first federation of clubs of Baseball formed with the the United States. It was created in 1857 by 16 clubs of New York and Brooklyn. From Brooklyn: Brooklyn Atlantics, Bedford, Continental, Eckfords, Excelsior, Harmony, Nassau, Olympic, Putnam; De Morrisania (nowadays in Bronx): Union; From New York (in its borders of 1857): Baltic, Eagle, Empire, Gotham, Harlem and New York Knickerbockers.
It organized the first championship of baseball gained by the Brooklyn Atlantics. As opposed to what could suggest the name of the NABBP, the latter federates many clubs and not players. The first club apart from the current limits of New York has to join the NABBP was the Liberty club of New Brunswick (New Jersey). In 1865, the NABBP counts hundreds of affiliated clubs; 400 in 1867. Because of this rapid growth after the American Civil War, of the regional committees were set up through all the country in 1868.
Based on the principle of amateurism, the NABBP really does not react when emergent the first cases of players remunerated in the middle of the Années 1860. It even officellement authorized this practice in 1869 following a vote in December 1868, and twelve clubs were declared professional as of this year. Conflicts burst then between amateurs and professionals in connection with the driving championship with creation into 1871 of an exclusively occupational competition: the National Association off Professional Bases Ball Players. The NABBP inherited then, de facto, of the statute of federation of baseball amateur during two years before bursting of regional structures.
