The National Assembly of Nigeria is the bicameral Parliament of the Nigeria, founded by section 4 of the constitution native of Niger. Inspired by the Congress of the United States, it is made up of the Senate (109 seats) and the Room of the representatives (360 seats), which must ensure an equal representation of the States whatever their size, and a representation proportional of the people. The deputies are elected for four years. A president and a rapporteur are respectively elected with the head of the Senate and the Room. Except absence, the president of the Senate chairs the plenary assemblies. The first president of the Senate was Nnamdi Azikiwe, which resigned thereafter to become the first Head of the State of the country.

The popular Democratic party, left the president Olusegun Obasanjo, holds currently more of two thirds of the seats. The relations between the president and his majority are tended, Obasanjo was shown of interference in the businesses of the Parliament while deputies PDP supported two impeachments launched by members of the opposition.

The Senate has the exclusive right relieve the judges and other members of the executive, whose members of the electoral commissions, but must initially make the request with the president of it. The nomination by the president of the diplomats, the ministers, the federal judges and the independent federal commissions is subjected to the approval of the Senate.

The president has a right of Veto on the laws voted by the Senate and the Room of the representatives. If necessary, or if the president neglects to announce his approval, the Plenary assembly can exceed the presidential veto in the majority of two thirds.
