Nathanael Herreshoff

Nathanael Herreshoff is a naval Architecte born the March 18th 1848 in Bristol and deceased in 1938.

It off obtains a diploma for the occupation of engineer in mechanics of the Massachusetts Institute Technology in 1870.

After a first career as engineer out of steam engine with Providence, it started to be interested in the naval architecture in 1890. It founds in Bristol a shipyard, the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company , with his John brother, blind.

It is universally known in the world of the veil like the architect of the victorious challenges of the USA in the Coupe of America between 1893 and 1920.

It is also one of the first originator of sailing ships Catamaran.

The site of the building site became the Herreshoff Marine Museum since 1971.
