Nathan Bedford Forrest (July 13rd 1821 - October 29th 1877) was a general confederated. He is regarded as one of the best strategists during the American Civil War: the tactics of displacement which it installation at the time are always studied and applied by the soldiers. After the war, Forrest became the first “First Large Wizard” of the Ku Klux Klan, title allotted to the chief of the KKK.

Youth

“My life was a combat since its beginning”.

Nathan Bedford Forrest was born on July 13rd, 1821 in Chapell Hill, in counted from Bedford, Tennessee, in a family of pioneers. His/her parents named William Forrest and Myriam Beck. Indeed, Forrest knew a difficult childhood, within a very many family, which was to fight from day to day to survive in a hostile environment. In 1834, the family leaves Tennessee, and settles in the Mississippi, Marshall County. It is orphan later of father two years, it is then 15 years old, and being the elder one, it must provide the needs for his pregnant mother and her 10 brothers and sisters. An epidemic of typhoid fever strikes shortly after the area, and if Forrest itself survives it, his/her three sisters whose her binocular as two of his/her brothers die. Forrest, which was not even a year at the school, has from now on obsession to earn money and to become rich not to never again have to undergo misery and wants to offer a better life to its family. He thus works very hard, to offer a decent life to his. It is easier when his/her mother remarie, but it feels still responsible for his brothers. He thus will employ one of the only existing means for an young man not educated and without relations to earn money quickly: he will become merchant of slaves.

He will continue this activity only time to pile up the money necessary to the purchase of a cotton plantation; to become grower, it is the access to good incomes and the social rise par excellence. Meanwhile, it meets his wife, Montgomery Mary-Anarchist, girl of Pasteur to the reticent departure so that she marries a man little believing. It however obtains its hand and the wife in 1845. In 1846, is born their William son, and in 1848, they will have a Fanny girl. Forrest settles with its family with Memphis, Tennessee. It earns its living well and pays with his brothers the studies which it could not have. It is not illiterate, it is proven that it continued some abstract studies, as an autodidact. However he will always write English with a rather approximate orthography. That does not prevent it from being implied in the local political life, it is elected at the station of Alderman, that corresponds roughly speaking to city council man, and it manages jointly the town of Memphis with some pars. It thus became notable, and does not like that one attacks it on his origins (very) modest and its school gaps. It in particular will be implied in the cleansing of the city, the installation of a system of drainage of water, because the cholera epidemics and fevers make devastations periodically. It will reach that point, fighting more especially as his/her Fanny daughter will succumb at the time of an cholera epidemic.

The American Civil War

During the release of the American Civil War, Forrest will voluntarily engage under the colors of its State, Tennessee.

It makes a point of engaging like private, refusing the preferential treatments which certain notable enjoy, and who their fact of receiving ranks of officer. However, Forrest arms a whole regiment with cavalry of its own sums of money (it is now millionaire), and its family follows it: his/her brothers and his son are present at his sides. But his/her friends of Memphis make play their influence and obtain the rank of colonel to him. He will appear a good tactician. He will gain his gallons following by his aptitudes and will be at the end of the war Lieutenant-General.

In the popular culture

To the beginning of the Film Forrest Gump, the hero éponyme says that his/her mother has it fore-mentioned " Forrest" in reference to Nathan Bedford Forrest, because Mrs Gump said that " sometimes, in the life, one makes things which do not have many sens".
