This name is carried by six men, perhaps eight, in the Tanakh.

  • Nathan , most famous, a Prophet living at the time of the King David, whose actions are described in the Livres of Samuel (mainly and), the Livre of the Kings, Chroniques and in the treaty talmudic Horayot.

  • Nathan, third wire of David and Bethsabée. According to Luc, it is about the grandfather to the 39ème generation of Joseph, the father of Jesus (1. Chr. 3:5; Luc 3:31)

  • In, two of the largest administrators of the cabinet of Solomon, Azarya and Zabad , have as a father Nathan . It seems implicitly established that these men are both wire of same Nathan, but to know whose of both Nathan precedents it acts, is a subject of controversy.

  • Nathan of Zobah, father of Igal is mentioned in 2 Samuel 23:36

  • In the books of the Chronicles, one mentions two Nathan

    • 1 Chronicles 2:36: Nathan descendant of Yerahmiel, the Tribe of Juda. It could be a question of the Prophète previously quoted.
    • 1 Chronicles 11:38: Nathan , brother of Joel, one of the soldiers of elite of King David.

  • In the book of Ezra,

    • Ezra 8:15 - 16: Nathan is one of the companions of Ezra, dispatched with Iddo in order to require of workers of the Temple to replace the disappeared Lévite S.
    • Ezra 10:38 - 44: Nathan Ben Binnouï is one of those which, being married out of Israel (i.e. with foreign), repudiates his wife and her children, but it could act of the person previously mentioned.
