He was opposed to the economic policies of the former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and to the Syrian interference in the Lebanese political life. He voted against the amendments with the Constitution imposed by Syria to extend the mandates of the presidents of the Republic Elias Hraoui (in 1995) and Emile Lahoud (in 2004).

In 2001, it joined the gathering of Kornet Chehwane, gathering the principal Christian figures of opposition, parainé at the time by Patriarch Maronite, Mgr. Nasrallah Sfeir .

The same year, it founds with about fifty intellectuals Lebanese (of which Misbah Ahdab, Camille Ziadé, Nadim Salem, Antoine Haddad, Ziad Baroud, Wafic Zantout, Mona Fayad, Hareth Sleiman, Assem Salam, Malek Mroueh, Melhem Chaoul…) the Movement of the democratic revival. This Movement is presented in the form of a political movement laic reformist of opposition.

He affirms himself as an important figure of the opposition anti-Syrian woman which started to be organized after the extension of the mandate of Emile Lahoud to the presidency of the Republic and which became extensive following the assassination of Rafiq Hariri on February 14th, 2005.

The Mouvement of the democratic revival belongs to the coalition anti-Syrian woman known as of March 14th (which gathers the Running of the Future of Saad Hariri, the Socialist party progressist of Walid Joumblatt, the Lebanese Forces of Samir Geagea, the gathering of Kornet Chehwane, the Party Kataëb of Amine Gemayel, the movement of the democratic Left of Elias Atallah, the national Bloc of Carlos Eddé and the Parti national liberal Dory Chamoun). Nassib Lahoud takes share with the legislative elections of June 2005 in its district of Metn, with the chief candidate of the coalition of March 14th. It loses the elections vis-a-vis the list of alliance between the Free patriotic current of the General Michel Aoun and a coalition of parties pro-Syrian of which the former Deputy Prime Minister Michel Murr.

Nassib Lahoud since 1995 is regarded as one of most serious “the présidentiables” Lebanese the more so as it maintains good relationships with the the United States and the Saudi Arabia. In spite of its failure with the last parliamentary elections, he announced his candidature for the presidential election of the autumn 2007. Lahoud hopes to obtain the official support of the Alliance of March 14th and can be considered, with Boutros Harb, like the most probable choice of this Alliance.

The size and the importance of the delegations of all the components of March 14th, which went to the ceremony during which Nassib Lahoud officially announced its candidature on September 13rd, 2007, to express their support to him, reveal the importance that this alliance grants to its candidature. Moreover, the presence of many intellectuals and the massive representation of youth in the public, the sides of many faces which marked the place of Freedom, allowed ressusciter environment characteristic of the Spring of Beirut.
