Description

There exist several species and of many horticultural varieties. They are indeed plants with bulbs whose beauty is very appreciated in the gardens but which are generally toxic.
Their flowering takes place in March or April, the flowers being of white or yellow color according to the species. Their strong odor can give the migraine, with the example of the yellow Narcisse.

The name of this kind comes from the Greek Mythologie: it is related to the history of Narcisse, a beautiful proud young man who was interested only in his only person and pushed back the advances of all the young girls. Despaired to be rejected by the conceited one, the Écho nymph addressed a prayer to Némésis, the Greek goddess of Revenge. Arrived in front of a source, Narcisse there saw his reflection and knelt in front of his own image. Trapped by its too great self-esteem, there remained motionless in front of this source until with its death. At the place where he died, its blood made push the high and curved flower which bears its name.

The narcisses are bulbous plants, with Feuille S basal and hollow stems, bearing of one with several flowers. The flowers comprise six petaloid tepals. Cheesecloths, six, are inserted in a crown (or paracorolle) out of cut or trumpet. The Fruit is a trefoil capsule generally containing many seeds.
