Nant
Nant is a common Frenchwoman, located in the Département of Aveyron and the area the Midday-Pyrenees. Its inhabitants are the Nantais .
Geography
Located in the canyon of the Dourbie, with the confluence of this one and of the Durzon, with the foot of the Nantes Rock , a few kilometres from Saint-Jean-of-Bruel the and of the city templière of Couvertoirade.
Many hamlets depend on this commune which presents one of the largest communal surfaces of France.
History
Nant was created by monks who, at the 10th century, drained the site Marécage ux with the confluence of the Dourbie and of the Durzon. They created a canal system in the place of the Marécage and melted a Monastère in 926. In 1135, the monastery is set up in Abbaye. The village was marked by the Guerre One hundred Year old and by the wars of religion, during which the monastic Cloitre and buildings were destroyed. Then the village knew a great prosperity in second half of the 17th century. A college, directed by the Priests of the Christian doctrines, had been created in 1665. The markets and the fairs of Nant, which were held under the markets, were flourishing. In 1777, the abbey is removed by royal decree.
