Nans-the-pines

Nans-the-Pines ( Nans in Occitan Of Provence) is a common French, located in the department of the Var and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Geography

In the West of the Center VAr, the territory of the commune lies between two rock bars: the Holy-Balsam and the Aurélien Mount. It is also located at the center of a triangle composed by three important regional agglomerations:

The old village encircles a traditional course of Provence planted of Platane S, on which the market is held all the Sunday S. Since a score of years, a strong residential habitat developed, placing people primarily working on the Marseilles agglomeration. This privileged situation, in a nest of greenery not far from the coast and of the main roads of communication also made village a privileged destination of the tourists fleeing crowd (see section economy).

History

Vestiges prove an occupation as of the Neolithic .

The Dolmen S and Tumulus which one finds on the territory of the commune attest of a continuous presence since good before Christian era (approximately -650 front JC).

Remainders of the Oppidum of Holy-Cross, whose its ramparts dated from the age of iron, make it possible to know that the places were occupied as from year -200, and for one approximately 2 centuries period. The original name of the village, Nans, date of this time and comes from a Celtic word meaning valley (the name of Nans-the-Pines will come only in 1920).

With time, the village turned around its hill, at the origin being directed in the south, and maintaining in north. However, in September 1720, Marseilles being buckled because of the great plague, of many people found refuge in the ruins of the old village, which was by completely then abandoned consequence.

The March 29th 1932, a decree of the Public Ministry of Labor and Merchant navy classifies Nans-the-Pines in Tourist resort.

Tourism

Tourist resort since 1932, the village offers many infrastructures to the visitors. There is a Camping deprived with village-club with 500m of the downtown area. One can also sleep with the hotel (2 establishments of which Relay-and-Castles) or in one of the rooms of hosts. It is it should be noted that a closed village of second home (more than one hundred) for Dutch tourists was recently open (2005).

In addition to these activities of lodging, the village also offers to the tourists a golf 18 holes, activities of horsemanship with a stud farm as well as many departures of excursions.

Para-hospital

By its situation privileged, as of the years 1920, a respiratory center of rehabilitation was installed and created by Doctor Lucien Parrel lung specialist. Being used for the origin with the minors of the area suffering from Silicosis, he is now attended by patients coming from whole France. Agriculture

Sector in lose speed, it acted until the beginning of the 20th century of floral production (pinks). Currently there is primarily vine and some truck farming of early products.

Places and monuments

  • the oratory of Crumb, built in 1516, is registered with the historic buildings since the June 3rd 1938. It is located on the Way of Roys in direction of the Holy-Balsam;
  • the Vault Our-Lady-of-the-Mercy, built in 1623, strengthened, dedicated to PĂ©nitants White, the top of the village at its western exit;
  • Passage of the GR9, which connects Saint-Love in the the Jura to Saint-Tropez;
  • ligure Oppidum on the rock of Holy-Cross;
  • Co-operative viticultural Vine growers of Nans-the-Pines, built in 1913, registered with the General Inventory of the Historic buildings;
  • Lastly, not very visible but quite audible, the Bell of bronze of the Saint-Sebastien-Saint-Laurent church, granted in D sharp, was molten in 1670. The municipality made it register on the list of the Classified Objects Historic buildings in 1992.
