Nanar, Jujube and Piette

Nanar, Jujube and Piette is a series of Cartoon French created by Marcel Gotlib in 1962 and published in Vaillant until in 1965, time to which an initially secondary character, Merry-Lad, become the main character, which implies the disappearance of the series.

history

It is in the newspaper Vaillant number 906 of September 23rd, 1962 that the new characters of Nanar and Jujube appear, drawn by some Garm , initially under the title of “ Nanar, Jujube and Co ”. The characters are Nanar , the facetious boy, Jujube , the malicious fox, like Basile and Blaise , the uncles de Nanar who disappear however rather quickly. In 1963, appears Piette , the bitch of the series, which is renamed “ Nanar, Jujube and Piette ”, the other characters being the father Laglume , a farmer of the corner and Mr Joachim , poête and whimsical artist.

Vis-a-vis the success of its humorous boards, Garno quickly exchanges its pseudonym for that of Gotlib, which it will not leave any more. Its désopilant humor and the many gags make the success of this series which will add up 132 pages until in 1965.

In 1964, Gotlib creates new supporting characters: the let us jujubillons , of renardeaux young people children of Jujube, and Merry-Lad, an apathetic and inexpressive dog inspired of Droopy. Quickly, the series is centred on Jujube and Merry-Lad which anthropomorphisent, while the other characters disappear little by little. Nanar and Piette having become secondary developments, the series disappears in December 1965 to be replaced by “ Jujube and Merry-Lad ” or only Jujube remains present vis-a-vis Merry-Lad.

Last the double board of Nanar, Jujube and Piette , published the December 5th 1965, puts in Jujube scene which tries to show its comic talent with Merry-Lad with coarse jokes (first board), then the two accomplices go to a convocation of the drafting of Vaillant . Jujube thinks that one will renegotiate his contract, but it proves ultimately that the convocation concerns Merry-Lad, who, with leaving the meeting announces in Jujube dumb-founded that as from the following week, the series will be called Jujube and Merry-Lad , with Merry-Lad like comic and Jujube being to make the serious counterpoint there.
