L' constant use is to say Lozere (a little as if it were about a river) but the department draws its name from a mount Lozere .the constituent Assembly, in 1790, chose the name “department of Lozere”, in reference to the “mountain of Lozere”. The Grand Larousse encyclopedic (vol. July 6th, th and th 1962) retained “mountain of Lozere” like the first name, relegating “Lozere mount” in second place. However, the chart of the department retains as for it only “Mt Lozere” and, in addition, the expression “mountain of Lozere” now fell in disuse. But the female kind for shortened name “Lozere” is historically justified. - the Petit Larousse 2005 with the article Lozere (department) gives name Lozériens for its inhabitants.
