The name of God of Israel and Juda exists in the Semitic texts north-Westerners of IX|E with in the form of the Tétragramme RTL He יהוה (YHWH). It is also attested, in incomplete form, in a great number of anthroponymes.

The Semitic writing is, at the origin, purely consonant. The pronunciation of Tétragramme was reconstituted starting from the Greek transcriptions and must be read Yahwêh . Jéhovah is an incorrect form which comes from the vowel-points (system invented at the time massoretic) of the word Adonaï (Lord) which was used by the Jews since the time achéménide to avoid pronouncing the name of God (cf): “You will not take the name of Yahweh, your God, in vain, because Yahweh will not leave unpunished that which will take its name in vain”). It is still used insofar as it became traditional, in particular by the Témoins of Jéhovah.

YHWH is a substantivized form of the verb hwy whose direction is multiple: to blow (the oldest direction), to speak, exist, create.

A name of god, in Antiquity, expressed nature of it. In the Exodus, God known as with Brace which required its name of him: “I am who I am” (). That appears more one manner of not answering (cf: “I make thanks to whom I make grace, I make mercy with which I make mercy”) while affirming the reality of its mysterious being, that to express an ontological eternity according to the interpretation of the Seventy which translated into Greek “I am that which is”.
