Name of jungle

The name of jungle (or totem of pack ) is the pseudonym which traditionally certain organizers scouts adopt: in sections 8-12 years (" louveteaux"), the organizers name thus " Akela" , " Baloo" , " Bagheera" , " Chil" , " Hathi" , etc These names are indeed drawn from the work of Rudyard Kipling, and more specifically find in the Book of the jungle.

Each character has his specificities, which generally leads the new organizers to choose theirs according to their own character.

He is of constant practice to choose the characters carrying positive values, such as courage, the friendship and the mutual aid. Consequently, it is excluded to take the name of the " méchants" (i.e. enemies of Mowgli): Shere Kan the tiger, Tabaqui the jackal, Bandar-Logs, etc

These names of jungle are used within the framework of the scoutes activities, as well by the organizers as by animated. In theory, one keeps the same one for the duration of his passage in the section; exception : an organizer which becomes responsible for section generally adopts the name of jungle of Akela (which is the wolf chief of pack, in the Book of the Jungle ).

Most current are: Akela, Bagheera, Baloo, Chil, Kaa, Hathi, Brother-Gray, Won-Tolla, Raksha, Rowed.
