Name of alliance

In Swiss, the name of alliance is a double name with hyphen, composed of the official family name which were transmitted by the spouse (in theory, but not necessarily, of the husband to the woman) on the one hand, and of the name of birth or another name front door the marriage (who is not any more official name) on the other hand.

Thus, the name of alliance is different from the family name officially carried according to the provisions of the Swiss Civil code. Its use, in the social life, therefore not being prohibited, it is also allowed to mention it on the passport and the indentity card, since it can be used to identify its carrier. Article 14 of the Ordinance on the documents of identity recognizes this possibility now expressly.
