Nahsholim

Nahsholim ( נחשולים ) is a Kibboutz located at the feet of the Mont Carmel.

Beginnings

Following the operation Namal of the Israeli-Arab War of 1948, a group of young people resulting from the unit Palmach are installed on June 14th 1948 on the grounds of Nahsholim.

These pioneers, idealistic Sioniste S and convinced of the positive effects of the establishment, have the idea to live work of the fishing and more generally of all that touches with the sea. The situation of the place, because of its proximity with the maritime coast of Tantoura, cannot better be appropriate.

The pioneers come from two distinct groups; first is composed of tsabarim having served in the rows as Palyam, the naval unit of Palmach; the second of immigrants originating in Turkey and Romania, made very young in Palestine and them having also served in the rows as Palmach. These two groups decide to be linked in the current of the year 1947, with an aim of sharing their passion for the sea. They are joined little time afterwards by a group of immigrants originating in Poland, survivors of the Shoah, and who, after a passage in Sweden and a stay with the camp of internment of Cyprus arrive in Ground of Israel.

The permanent structures appear only four years after the foundation of Nahsholim. The main obstacle to which are confronted the pioneers, resides in the presence of many archaeological vestiges which they fear to damage. Indeed, at the place even where they decide to build the kibbutz, in the Antiquité the port was held of Dor, rich person of history.

The kibbutz today

With the abandonment of the activity of fishing in 1960, Nahsholim develops its agricultural productions then, and cultivates from now on bananas and lawyers. It also produces cotton, thescanty one and corn. It has a cattle shed, a hen house and basins of pisciculture.

Its last years, Nahsholim arranges the coast of Tantoura, where a private beach and rooms are held today of hosts.

In 1970, the kibbutz creates a plastic factory, which becomes the most important activity on the levels of its benefit and the number of people that it employs. It also has of a workshop of composition of plants and a factory of pipes, intended for the network ferrovier of the country. About fifty members whom Nahsholim at its beginnings counted, the population of the kibbutz is today of 400 people.

With the collaboration of the kibbutzes neighborhood, Nahsholim opens an elementary school in the kibbutz close to Eïn-Carmel, where the children of the area are registered. The college is created in the close kibbutz, Maagan-Mikhaël.
