Naginatajutsu
The Naginatajutsu (なぎなた術, 長刀術 or 薙刀術) is a Martial art Japan board. One studies there the handling of the Naginata, a traditional Hallebarde.
The majority of the current students of the naginatajutsu learn a modernized form, the naginata (a Gendai budo) sometimes also called atarashii naginata (new naginata), and organize international competitions from it. The students carry protections, similar to those carried for the Kendo although presenting some differences with those (the sides of the helmet are different, the gloves are provided with fingers and a protection is provided on the level of the legs). The weapon used currently (a length of 2m25) is composed of a handle out of wooden finished by a blade of bamboo. It is used for the combat and some katas (sequences of basic technical movements). Some Kata S are taught only with high level and are practiced with a sawn timber naginata.
The practice of the naginata forms also part of that, vaster, of the Kobudo.
