Nagaland
The Nagaland is a small State of the North-East of India. Its capital is Kohima. Nagaland is divided into 7 administrative districts. The name comes from the nagas, local ethnos group distributed between 16 groups and 30 tribes which constitute 84% of the population. The ethnic minorities are Chin (with the number of 40 000), Assamais (220 000) and Bengali of Islamic religion (14 000). More than 85% of the population Christianity professes, mainly Baptist. Christianity is also majority in the Neighboring states of the Mizoram and the Meghalaya and represents an important minority in the State of Manipur: this deeply distinguishes them from the remainder of India whose populations are very mainly of Hindu religion.
History
The History is unaware of all the region corresponding to current Nagaland until the 19th century. Tribes - Nagas - which lived it were very late and were devoted to the traditional activities of the primitive people (drives out, gathering, food agriculture). The tribal wars were frequent and Nagas were cutters of heads. Each tribe, each clan lived separately and had his own traditions. It is an ethnos group of the mongoloïde type which certain indices make it possible to bring closer to the natives of the Filipino and Indonesia, without any certainty however.Contrary to the Assam which was directed by several dynasties of Râja S, as the Chinese pilgrim Xuanzang, at the 7th century, the area of current Nagaland attests it did not know an administrative organization before the arrival of the British and the integration of the territory in the field of the British Raj during first half of the XIXe century. The British reflect fine with the practice of the cut of heads and the tribal wars and introduced Nagas with the rudiments of civilization. Kohima became the administrative center in 1887, of the police force were installed and the founded taxes. In fact did, the administration of the country really start into 188? , of the secondary administrative centers were established with Wokha then with Mokokchung.
Nagas were évangélisés by missionaries Baptists from America. Conversion with Christianity, the elimination of illiteracy, initiation with English were the causes of a moral and cultural evolution considerable, and irremediable loss of the ancestral traditions.
Nagas were little concerned with the First World War, even if some of them took part in the combat in Europe under the British flag. On the other hand, at the time of the Second world war, the area was occupied by the Japan board, and Nagas remained honest towards the Crown.
It is starting from the beginning of the Années 1920 that a beginning of national conscience shaped among certain elites. At the time of the independence of India, the area was built-in of liking or force in the Indian Union, considered as natural heiress of the Empire British, although the country of Nagas, like besides the close areas, in common has with this one only one relative geographical proximity, other than any ethnic community, cultural, religious or linguistic. The persevering action of the separatists however managed to obtain, if not independence, at least a certain autonomy. Nagaland became a Federal state on February 1st 1963. Previously, the statute of this area was in question since 1956. The independence movements, however, do not lower the guard.
The October 2nd 2004, of the independence attacks with two explosions of bombs in the States of Assam and Nagaland made at least 57 died and more than 100 wounded. The authorities showed two independence organizations, the United Liberation Face off Asom and the National Democratic Front off Boroland.

They are divided into five groups which do not form a Clade in the tibéto-Burmese family: the term naga is a general designation used by the colonizers and does not have a real value from the linguistic point of view or even ethnographique.
These five groups are:
- naga of north (chang, phom, konyak, khiamngan, wancho, tangsa): these languages are connected with the Jingpo and the Bodo-garo.
- ao naga (ao chungli, ao mongsen, lhota, sangtam, yimchunrü)
