Nadela

The Nadela or Serb Nadel in Cyrillic Надела or Надел, is a system of channels and rivers of Serbia located in the autonomous province of Voïvodine. Its longor is of 81 km. It is a right affluent of the the Danube.

Nadela belongs to the basin of drainage of the Black Sea. It is not navigable.

Race

Nadela is born from the lock of Botoš with the crossing of the Canal the Danube-Stoke-Danube and of the Tamiš, at an altitude of 73 Mr. Of many other locks channel the course of the river with Tomaševac, Uzdin, Putnikovo, Kovačica and Debeljača. Thus channeled, Nadela runs in direction of the south.

Close to Uzdin, water of Nadela is used for the pond of Uzdin. Until Debeljača, Nadela, also called on this part of its course Veliki kanal (the " large canal"), runs like a natural river. But after Debeljača, it is collected for the irrigation of the arable lands. As from this moment, the river decrease in term of volume and of flow and forms nothing any more but one brook. Its water is also used with industries as Jabuka and Pančevo. Without the system of locks to pump water, the river would cease running.

Nadela continues towards the south, close to Crepaja, Jabuka, Pančevo, Starčevo, Omoljica and Ivanovo, where it is thrown in the Danube by creating a " ada" , a river river, the island of Ivanovo Ostrvo.

Nadela receives several affluents and channels, mainly at the end of its course: the Verovac , the Dolovački Begej , the Crepajski kanal , the Srednji Begej , the Ponjavica etc

Hydrosystème

The totality of the course of Nadela is organized like only one hydrosystème. Its water is mainly used for the irrigation of approximately: 4500 Hectare S of Arable lands and for the use of industries of Jabuka and Pančevo. The river is also used as channel of drainage for waste water, in particular those of the factories of Pančevo. So its lower course is extremely polluted.

A series of locks is useful:

  • in the upper part of the course, to prevent the overflow of Tamiš in the rainy years.

  • in its central part, to prevent Nadela itself from overflowing, for the rainy periods.
  • in its southernmost part, to prevent water of the Danube from overflowing when the level of water is raised and to control the course of water of the Danube reversed because of the hydroelectric stations of Đerdap.
