Nada Surfing

Nada Surf is a group of music, formed in 1992 with New York, which one can classify like alternative Rock or pop Power. The group has a world reputation, it could carry out rounds with the the United States, with the Canada, in Europe, Australia and with the Brésil in particular (see this chart). This longevity allowed Matthew, Daniel and Ira to carry out four albums studio. In 2007, they prepare a fifth opus, Lucky, which are awaited for the beginning of 2008, the American exit being planned for on February 5th, 2008. They will be besides in promotional round in Europe in at the end of 2007.

Their songs were diffused in popular American series such as Six Feet Under, Newport Beach, How I Puts Your Mother and Heroes. They make even to an appearance in the Brothers Scott.

In 2007, the legendary group of the years 1970 America carried out a resumption of the song Always Love on its album Here & Now , in which Matthew and Ira took part.

October 12th, 2007, the group officially announced the exit of its fifth album, " Lucky ".

Biography

Nada Surf is formed with the beginning of the year 1990 by Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca. All two divided the benches of the French College of New York (the USA) and made their studies in Belgium and France. They played in several groups, of which The Cost off Living room and Because Because. Their first fore-mentioned beater daN , the group referred there later in the song The Plan (album High/Low). DaN is replaced by Aaron Conte, with which the group records its first two-titles: Plane The/Telescope (1994/Stickboy), as well as the demonstration Tafkans , rough version of High/Low. From this demonstration are extracted from the titles of the second vinyl, Deeper Well/Pressure Free (1995/Deep Elm Records), of Karmic and North 6th Street.

Aaron ended up leaving the group and is replaced beginning 1995 by Ira Elliot, old beater of the Fuzztones, group very present on the New-Yorkaise scene of the years 1980, and whose Matthew and Daniel were fans. They had dreamed during several years to ask this one to join them, but had judged more relevant to wait to acquire a certain level. The arrival of Will go within Nada Surf is an element founder, since consequently, the ambition of Matthew and Daniel are multiplied by ten, because if they want to keep such a beater, they must see large.

Also, as for the term in one concert to the Knitting Factory to which they assist they cross Ric Ocasek, former member of the Cars, and producer in particular of Weezer, they have courage to give him, without conviction, a copy of Tafkans . A few days later, Ric points out them in order to say to them that it is interested but wishes to re-record the entirety of the songs. In same time, the group finalizes an agreement with Elektra. A producer, a recording company, High/Low is launched.

During the summer 1996, Nada Surf turns to the the United States to the sides of Superdrag, and Popular tubes it floods the waves and crosses the Atlantic. Nada Surf conquers then the Europe, where in September 1998 The Proximity Effect leaves, produced by Fred Maher. In fact does, their recording company find that this album does not comprise a hit with the measurement of Popular, and makes record with the group several recoveries, of which Black & White (The dBs) and Why Are You So Mean To Me? (Vitreous Humor), in order to make an individual of it. But wearied by inclinations of the artistic Director , Nada Surf judges that the album is complete and refuses all new change (Elektra suggesting even including an acoustic version of Popular ). Also, this album will not leave in addition to the Atlantic, and whereas the group is in promotional round in Europe, their label the coward, and in particular ceases transmitting the requests for interview to them which it receives. Despite everything, this album will receive very warm welcome in France, and the group embarks for a round of 30 French dates in March 1999.

Follows one year of legal battle in order to obtain the rights of The Proximity Effect, procedure which leads in 2000, allowing the group to leave this album on their own structure created to this effect: MarDev , inspired of the first name of the maternal grandmother of Matthew. Remain to reconquer the North-American public, which is made with long months of rounds, also allowing to raise some funds in order to finance a new album.

Running 2001, they record the majority of the titles of Let Go, produced and realized, inter alia, by their friends, Louis Lino and Chris Fudurich, which had carried out The Proximity Effect. Those are paid in tickets of $1 and $5, money resulting from the sale of merchandizing during the rounds carried out. The album is rented so much by criticisms than by the public, and individual the Inside off Coils walk very of course the waves. Although some critics see there an expression of the melancholy new yorkaise post 9-11, Let Go was composed before these events. This marks an outstanding stage for the group, which for the first time could take its time, to work without any pressure, without artistic director, being subjected only to the only requirements of their creativity. The fans, always active on line, await long months a coming out date, unceasingly deferred, but the end result largely compensates for the years of lack. Nada Surf completed to turn for The Weight Has Gift in October 2006, and works since with next the opus, announced during a time under the title Time for Plan A' . They for that went to the studios Robert Lang, Seattle, in March 2007, working under the direction of the producer John Goodmanson, and should begin the promotion of the new album during the autumn.

The American exit of their 5th album, Lucky, is envisaged on February 5th, 2008.

Discography

It is the title Popular extracts from their album High/Low (High/Bas) which revealed in 1996 Nada Surf ; the title is diffused in loop on all the radios and all the televised chains, classified #11 of the classification “US Billboard Modern Rock”, the album reaching the 63ème position in the Billboard 200.

The following album, The Proximity Effect (the effect of proximity), does not draw the attention which it deserves, for lack of promotion since it leaves only to Europe and without real support their recording company the time, amorçant the departure of the group. After two years of legal procedures in order to obtain the rights on the album, Nada Surfing fate in the United States under its own label, MarDev , in August 2000. It receives very good criticisms then, qualified Pet Sounds for the New Millenium . The members of the group take again a life quasi " normale" while composing and while turning in order to finance the realization of the next album.

After four years of " pause" , Let Go leaves (Lets go), which is accommodated very positively by the public and unanimously by the specialized press. The song Inside off Coils is diffused with the radio and reaches even the 73ème position with the the United Kingdom, a performance that neither Popular nor the two individual precedents of Let Go succeeded. The malicious gossip will say that Let Go made it possible Nada Surf to reappear of its ashes, whereas the observers stress that the group forever ceased existing and turning.

Their last album in date: The Weight Has Gift (the weight is a gift), of which the tube " Always Love" is resulting, attests delicate songwritting of Matthew Caws and their love of the harmonies and melodies. To note that the group, sensitive to the French culture, took again this summer Alain Souchon with the title the p' tite bill is sick , after adaptations of the Adventurer (Indo-China) in 2003 and of To the bottom of the Golden dream (Francoise Hardy).

Contrary to the preceding opus, very few titles of the next album, Lucky, produced by John Goodmanson (Death Cab for Cutie, Harvey Danger, Fair Redhead), recorded in March and August 2007 and awaited for on February 5th, 2008, arrived at the ears of the public, by the means of recordings in concerts. Its exit was officially announced on October 12th, 2007.
