Nackenheim

Short portrait

Nackenheim is located in an idyllic framework between the vines and the the Rhine. Its vineyards were mentioned, for the first time, there is more than 1200 years. The poet and playwright Carl Zuckmayer were born there in 1896. In its part " Merry Vignoble" it immortalisé its native land.

Road link

Has 14 kilometers in the south of Mainz, connected to the highway network by B9, a trunk road with four ways. Regular stopping of the trains of the Mainz-Worms line. A wharf along bank allows the accosting of the boats of excursion of all sizes. Cycle tracks connect Nackenheim to Bodenheim, Mainz and Nierstein. Wine of Nackenheim

" Far upstream from the river, where the Rhine runs without castles nor rocks, but also without factory chimneies, quiet and impetuous between vineyards with the coppered reflections and soft inclined orchards, it is the country of my childhood and my jeunesse."

It with as much tenderness than Carl Zuckmayer, the famous child of Nackenheim, is described its native land between the vineyards and the Rhine. The combined landscape, slope, ground and water make bear fruit the vine which pushes here. Reverberation of the river which passes very close reheating the fertile red schist and marl, loess ground at temperatures comparable with those of the countries of the south. The vine growing is thus integral part of Nackenheim.

The gilded wines of the vintages Schmittskapellchen, Rothenberg and Engelsberg and also Großlage Gutes Domtal and Spiegelberg are known beyond the borders of the area and found amateurs in the whole world.

It is thus not astonishing only taverns and " Straußwirtschaft" (open inns in season in the vine grower) accommodate the visitor, that a great festival of the wine takes place traditionally the last weekend of July but also that an intense friendly relation is maintained with the famous wine locality Pommard in Burgundy.

Allotment in construction

The allotment " Sprunk II" is in the course of development. It is composed of 61 grounds intended for the construction of houses.
