Nacimientos

The volcanic solid mass Nacimientos (Spanish word meaning births ) is currently a group of stratovolcanoes considered as extinct, which is in province Argentine of Catamarca (Département of Tinogasta). Its top is called Cazadero or Walter Penck I . The complex of Nacimientos includes/understands multiple tops and very high craters. It is the sixth higher volcano of the world.

Description

It is formed of the following craters:
  • Walter Penck I or Nacimientos (6  658 or 6  669 meters of altitude)
  • Walter Penck II (6  350 m)
  • Walter Penck III (6  192 m)
  • and of a series of others and many craters without name currently.

Situation

It is surrounded by many other volcanos whose principal ones are the volcano Olmedo (6  215 m) in the east, the Gendarme Argentino I (5  953 m) and the Gendarme Argentino II (6  013 m) a little more in the east, and north, the volcano ATA (6  501 m). Some consider incorrectly that the latter also form part of the solid mass of Nacimientos. At the North-East the volcano badly known Medusa is located.

Nacimientos constitutes the north-eastern edge of the basin known as of the Salina of Laguna Verde. It belongs to the small snow-covered volcanic chain of the zone of the 27 degrees of southern latitude, about fifty kilometers length, located on the northern edge of the basin and sheltering several of the highest volcanos of the ground. It is located in fact at a few kilometers at the south of the Nevados Ojos del Salado The volcano Cerro Bayo in south-east (6  436 meters) is almost completely plain with complex of Nacimientos.

Further towards the south, beyond the salina of the laguna verde are in more the most volcano of the ground, the Monte Pissis and the higher third, the Cerro Bonete (Bonete Chico).
