Nabih Berri (rear RTL نبيهبرّي) (born the January 28th 1938) of the Lebanese Parlement is the President and the Arab Parlement, as well as the chief of the movement Amal.
Biography
Parents Lebanese of confession Shiite, it is born with the Sierra Leone. It went to school of Tibnin, with the South-Lebanon then studied in Makassed and the School of the Wisdom of Beirut. It obtains its diploma of right in 1963. In the Sixties, it joined the Arab Nationalist movement of George Habache.
In the Seventies, he works as a lawyer for General Motors in Beirut. He also lived with Detroit of 1976 with 1978.
He held of many stations during the Seventies for the movement Amal of the Imam Moussa Sader. Following the resignation of Hussein Husseini, it takes the control of Amal in April 1980. It carried out Amal during the Guerre of Lebanon. In 1984, it joined the government of the National unit as a Minister for the underground resources then Minister for justice and Minister for the electric resources and hydraulics under the Prime Minister Rachid Karamé. He played a part in the negotiations of the taking of hostage of a plane of TWA.
Of 1989 with 1992, he is member of the successive governments of Salim El-Hoss, Omar Karamé and Rachid Solh, when he was elected President of the Parliament on November 20th. The House of Commons of Lebanon re-elected, Tuesday, June 28, with its presidency the prosyrian leader Nabih Berri for a fourth consecutive mandate (1992, 1996,2000 and 2005). This assembly of 128 seats, dominated by adversaries of the Syria for the first time since the civil war of 1975 - 1990, decided with a majority of 90 votes in favor of Mr. Berri, chief of the militia Shiite Amal. The presidency of the Room returns traditionally to a Shiite under the terms of the Lebanese national pact. There remains one of the principal prosyrian figures to the Lebanon and maintains good relationships with the president of the Republic Emile Lahoud. It launched in March 2006 the Committee of Lebanese dialog which joins together the 14 principal political personalities of the country.
He is president of the Bloc of the Release and the Development.
