NXP Semiconductors
NXP was born on August 31st, 2006. It is a Spin-off of division Semi-conducteur S of Philips.
History
In December 2005, Frans van Houten, the chairman from Philips Semiconductors announced the intention of Philips to separate from his division semiconductors either by creating a Spin-off (as did it in his time Siemens with Infineon) or by selling it with another group of semiconductors.
August 4th, 2006, Frans van Houten announces that 80.1% of Philips Semiconductors is sold with an American group of private investors (Kholberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), Silver Lake Partners and AlpInvest Partners NV), Philips keeping the 19.9% remainders.
September 1st, 2006, Frans van Houten announces that the new business is called NXP . The name NXP refers to the slogan Consumer Next Experience like at the multi-media platform Nexperia of Philips Semiconductors.
The logo of the new business will assert filiation with Philips by the mention founded by Philips .
In 2005, Philips Semiconducteurs points in the 9th place among the twenty larger manufacturers of semiconductors
Products
NXP currently takes again the catalog of the products the semiconductors of Philips, most known being the family of circuits sold under the mark Nexperia.
