NTM

Supreme NTM ( NR ic T has M era) is a group of French Rap formed in 1988.

Biography

The group was made up mainly and initially of JoeyStarr (Didier Morville), of Kool Shen (Bruno Lopes) and of DJ S (F. Rent), all three originating in the department of the Seine-Saint-Denis in Parisian suburbs. DJ S and Kool Shen know themselves since childhood. The Didier young person arrives when they are in CM1 but no homosexual relationship is created then. In July 1983 of the American Hip Hop dancers are on the place of Trocadéro Joey Starr and Kool Shen goes there separately. Both are marked by this service. Kool Shen learns that the future Joey Starr was there also, it goes to its meeting in the close city and begin all two to be involved with the dance. Joey Starr and Kool Shen are thus initially made know by the dance (the Breakdance for Kool Shen and the smurf for Joey Starr) then and especially the Graffiti (in particular on line 13 of the subway), they evolved/moved then in a poses named NTM (formed of the DRC (Da Red Chiffons) and of the TCG (The Crime Gang). A little later the group is reinforced while joining the 93 M.C. (Kea, Swen, Lazer, Mam, Mao, Boa, Famed, Arem, J Lee, Reak, Kast, Acid, Arys, Kar, Rowe, Naze…)of St Denis, which will give fusion 93 NTM (with Chino, Colt, Mode 2, Tex, Kay One, Aro, Meo as well as the TCG and the DRC). It should not be neglected the fact that NTM is at the base a group of " Writers" graffiti;. In an ultimate way the two accomplices turn to another discipline of the hip hop after having seen their pals of the time Assassin (group) making some: rep.

NTM appears publicly as from 1989, on Radio Nova in the emission of Dee Nasty and Lionel D, Deenastyle.

In 1990, their title I rap appears on the first compilation of French Rap Rapattitude .

" majors" start to be interested in the rap, the group is signed at Epic, which will be little of time after repurchased by Sony.

One year later leaves Authentik , their first album. The most known pieces is Le Monde of tomorrow , the Money rots people, It is clear , Authentik , " Freestyle" feat. Rockin' Squat inter alia.

Will follow in 1993, the album 1993… I press on the trigger , " composé" mainly by DJ S. a piece, Police force , will involve an investigation classified without continuation. The album is a commercial disappointment compared to precede opus and will lead only on one mini round.

In 1995, the group leaves its third album Paris under the bombs , this one marks separation with historical DJ/producteur of the group, DJ S. the pieces are made up mainly by DJ Clyde, LG. Exp. and Lucien. Three clips ( All is not so easy , What one awaits and the Fever ) are produced by Seb Janiak and are gathered through a short film Paris under the bombs . The album is sold with 500.000exemplaires In 1998 the album leaves the dedication: Supreme NTM , from where result the pieces My Benz , That' S my People , Laisse not to trail your sons , Pose your gun , the Seine Saint Denis Style , It is Arrivé Close to at home . It is as this year as both will be created labels Boss Off Scandalz Stategyz (BOSS) for Joey Starr and IV My People for Kool Shen.

In 2000 leave their first album " live" NTM Live… of the World of tomorrow in Pose your gun and the DVD in the concert to the Zenith of Paris. The same year appears documentary on the group Authentiques realized by Alain Chabat and Sear (editor association of the magazine Get Busy )

The rumors of separation are increasingly important but Joey Starr and Kool Shen do not exclude, at the time, the realization of a fifth album.

In 2001, the two labels B.O.S.S. and IV My People leave the album the Clash , compilation, making following a series of maxis, containing the pieces of the group remixés by each label.

A little later any possibility of reformation is excluded.

In spite of its enormous popularity in France, in the rest of Europe and even to Canada, NTM was very criticized for the violence of its words. July 14th, 1995, at the time of a concert with the Seyne-sur-Mer organized by S.O.S Racism, to protest against the election of a mayor of the Front National party in Toulon, the Supreme NTM interprets the title Police , to introduce the piece Joey Starr critical and insult the police force. It is the beginning of business NTM. That will be worth in November 1996 to them, in first authority with the Magistrates' court of Toulon, a judgment in three months of imprisonment (and three months with deferment), like six months of prohibition “to follow the occupation of singer of varieties”, for “matter outrageants” towards the police force at the time of a concert with the Seyne-sur-Mer. NTM appeals and, in June 1997, the Court of Appeal of Aix-en-Provence reduces the judgment of the Court of Toulon and condemns Kool Shen and Joey Starr to 50.000 Francs of fine and two months of suspended sentence.

Evolution of career

Although seemingly the two members of the group appeared close, it did not remain about it less than except scene or camera, Kool Shen and Joey Starr carried out their lives separately. For example the two singers composed their texts separately, putting beforehand agreement on the topic of a song, writing each one of sound dimensioned thereafter. This mode of writing and operation has surprised many fans, because of the apparent proximity and complicity which emerged from this duet.

Since 2001, Joey Starr and Kool Shen continue careers solo. Kool Shen left the album Dernier round into 2004 before withdrawing rap (as a singer). Today, Kool Shen deals with producing and unearthing artists “new generation” via his structure IV My People. It however reconsidered its decision of exit of the rap and its new opus should appear in 2008. It does not give up however its label, IV My People

Joey Starr, continues to him to handle the microphone. Its first album in solo, " Station with the jaguarr " , on October 16th, 2006 left. While waiting, it left at the beginning of 2006 its biography, bad reputation , Co-written with Philippe Manœuvre and an album compilation joining together a selection of its preferred titles, My Playlist , at Wagram music.

They are also at the origin of two marks of streetwear: 2 High for Kool Shen and Com8 or, more recently, Wild West Indies for Joey Starr.

In spite of their separation, group NTM must still honor an album in the contract the binder at their recording company. This is why a best off will leave on November 26th, 2007.
