NT1

NT1 (New Television 1) is a Television channel French general practitioner commercial private.

History of the chain

At the origin of the project, this new television channel designed by the Groupe AB for the French Digital terrestrial television was to be called NT1 (for Terrestrial Numérique 1), but fine 2004, the group renames its project “the Four” by analogy with the Five whose chain is inspired and to assert the place of fourth French general channel (perhaps thinking that the televiewers would replace encrypted Canal+ by the Four on the preselection n°4 of their television set). Following the choice of France Televisions in January 2005 to rename Festival in France 4, and in order to avoid any confusion with it, group AB is constrained to again change the name of its chain and returns then to NT1 which then takes a new significance (New Television 1) but guard same graphics as the Four.

The chain is launched on March 31st 2005 with 18:00 with the 13 other first free channels of TNT.

NT1 was conceived like a mixture of its two elder within the group, RTL9 and AB1, and wants to be a direct competitor of the large chains French commercial general practitioners like TF1 and especially M6 by its very directed programming series and emissions with feelings.

And the project of the Four was born in Belgium.
