NOFX

NOFX is a group of melody Punkcore Californian formed in 1983 by “Fat Mike”, Erik Sandin and Eric Melvin in Los Angeles. NOFX was qualified by the press underground of “ funniest band in rock'n'roll ” ( the funniest group of the rock'n'roll ).

Origin of the name

Name NOFX would come from an old group of Punk hardcore called Negative FX (this one having recorded one album before separating). Since letter X is the symbol of the movement Straight edge and that to the origin 3 members of the group followed philosophy from there (after the song eponyme of Minor Threat) it was believed a long time that the name of the group meant “ No fucking straight edge ”. However, the group insists on the fact that it is about a chance and that the name wants nothing to say.

Beginnings

They carry out their first titles under the name NOFX (album) in 1984 on Mystic Records.

They record Liberal Animation in 1988 with Brett Gurewitz of the group Bad Religion. The following year, the group signs with Epitaph Records (label of Brett Gurewitz) and leaves S&M Airlines (1989) and Ribbed in 1990 then in 1991, NOFX sudden of many changes, however, the three members of origin are brought together and “El Hefe” is added to the trio to form a quartet. Success

In 2003, Fat Mike also made an interview for Guitar World to give its point of view on the current expansion of the groups of Pop-punk. It also gave an interview, in 2004, with Triple J , an Australian radio station.

the name of the 22e recording (in all) of NOFX was named So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes in reference to the book of Douglas Adams, the Guide of the galactic traveller .

the first LP of NOFX named S&M Airlines was sold with 3.500 copies in the first year. At this time, NOFX was regarded as a group of metal because of Steve which had the long hair and a typified guitar metal.
