A connector RJ45 is a physical Interface often used to finish the cables of the type Twisted pair. “RJ” comes from English Registered Jack (taken jack recorded) who is part of the Code of the federal payments ( Code off Federal Regulations ) to the the United States. It comprises 8 stitches S of connections electric S.

It is often used with standards like the TIA/EIA-568-B which describes the stitching termination of wiring.

Use

A very current use is wiring Ethernet, using 4 pins (2 pairs). One also uses it as connectors of Téléphone S of offices and for the application of data-processing networks like ISDN and T1.

Thus, France Telecom recommends the use of the RJ-45 connected in Star shaped network, for the new telephone installations, instead of the Prise in T, since 2003. In addition, a Spanish royal decree defines the cases of use of RJ-11 and the RJ-45 for the points users of termination of network (TR1) telephone Spanish.

Wiring

At the time of a data-processing wiring in 10/100 Mbit/s, only pins 1-2 and 3-6 are used to transmit information. At the time of a data-processing wiring in 1000 Mbit/s (1 Gbit/s) the eight pins are used. When one connects a work station in a Concentrateur (hub) or a switch ( switch ), a right cable must be used. When one must connect two work stations together, a cross cable must be used, except in the case of a communication in Gigabit where will also have to be used a right cable. In the crossed cable, the useful pairs are reversed, i.e. the pair of transmission of an east coast connected to the pins of reception on other side.

Certain equipment modern network is however able to make MDI/MDI-X, i.e. (die) automatic crossing according to the type of cable used, the adapters networks and the situation present. This (die) crossing is made in a software way on the level of one of the two adapters (or on the operating system) after those agreed on the adapter to reverse.

Right wiring

The right cable is used to connect the apparatus to a hub or a switch. end 1 <=====================> end 2

Ordinary lay

The cross cable is used to connect two identical apparatuses unit and thus to be freed from a hub or switch; the crossing below is valid for connections 1000 Mbit/s (Gigabit). The connection of an apparatus to a switch or a hub can be done by crossed cable with the proviso of having a switch, a hub or an adapter network which detect wiring (system of Crossing Auto MDI/MDI-X). For a few years, connection between two PC has been able to be made by noncross cable, the chart network being able to analyze if the cable is cross or not (native for the charts gigabit). end 1 <==========x==========> end 2
