Níjar

Níjar is a Ville and a commune of the Province of Almería, located in Andalusia, Spain. In 2005 the city counted 24.435 inhabitants. Its total surface area is of 601 km ² for a density of 40,7 hab. /km ². Its geographical coordinates are of 36º 58 ' North, and 2º 12 ' West, at an altitude of 356 Mètre S and located at the south-east and 32 kilometers of Almería.

The agglomeration of Níjar located and hung on the southernmost slope of the sierra Alhamilla, and on the river Artal constitutes a whole of elements which makes this city a Andalusian city as at the first days. This agglomeration comprises several places of dwellings, like San Isidro, San Jose, Almadraba de Monteleva and without forgetting Cabo de Gata being located on Mediterranean banks where one can admire the Natural park of Cabo of Spoiled-Níjar.

History

Some traces of life of the Neolithic time (neolithic age or age of the new stone) were found in Níjar, which confirms a last and rich activity of the locality. At all times the life agricultural and rural of the village was very hard and painful for the families living in the surroundings, because of the hardness and the aridity of the ground primarily made up of rock and stones, which will have as a consequence throughout the history of Níjar a fluctuating demography according to its difficulties.

On the commune, one cultivates mainly for the international business of:
