Nérac (occitan: Nerac ) is a common French,
Geography
flowered City : located in the department of Lot-et-Garonne and the Aquitanian area on the Fall in Country of Albret.
It is the chief town of a district covering the south-west of the department.
History
A villa Gallo-Roman located at Garenne was excavated there in 1832 under the direction of the Sculpteur - forger Maximilien Theodore Chrétin, who assembled the fable of an imperial city of the time of the Tetricus with the complicity of Toulouse Of Mège.Apogee of city locates at 16th century, when the Seigneur S of Albret, which had settled there towards the XIe century (coming from Labrit, in the Landes) become Kings de Navarre following the marriage of Jean III of Albret with Catherine de Foix only daughter of Gaston Phébus, in 1484. A little later their son Henri II of Albret wife in 1527 Marguerite of Angouleme, sister of François I {{er}}, one of the first writer be in French language ( Heptaméron ). It attracts in Nérac of the humanistic and the writers (Lefèvre d' Etaples, Marot). His/her daughter Jeanne d' Albret wife Antoine of Bourbon (1548) and converts with the Protestant religion.
In the Years 1530 and following, under the influence of Jeanne d' Albret, the population of Nérac converts with the Protestantisme, to be entirely huguenote at the beginning of the wars of religion.
Charles IX passes in the city at the time of royal sound Tour de France (1564 - 1566), accompanied by the Cour and Large by the kingdom: his/her brother the duke of Anjou, Henri de Navarre, cardinal of Bourbon and Lorraine.
In 1572, Jeanne d' Albret and Catherine de Médicis, respectively queen of Navarre (Protestant) and queen of France (catholic) marry their enfants : Henri III of Navarre and Marguerite de Valois ( Queen Margot ). Died not very front, Jeanne does not attend these " weddings of sang" . It is possible that Catherine ordered the massacre of the Protestant chiefs the day of the Saint Barthelemy benefitting from their arrival with Paris but this assumption is prone to controversy. After this disastrous event, it retains her son-in-law with the Louvre until in 1576.
Released, it returns in Nérac and holds in 1578 to with it - 1579 with Catherine de Médicis the conferences from which the edict left Nérac.
Later, Henri III of Navarre-Bourbon-Albret becomes king de France under the name of Henri IV, after Henri III died without descent (1589). The formula of the intéressé  is known;: " Paris is worth a messe" well;: when the doors of Paris opened in Henri, those of famous were closed again for Nérac.
The city revolts under Louis XIII and is taken by Henri de Mayenne in 1621 and its fortifications raséees.
With the XVIIIe century, she knew an economic prosperity thanks to the trade of the flours-minots in direction of the " Isles d' Amérique" (St-Domingue). With the XIXe century, she sees the beginnings of the Baron Haussmann which is sub-prefect of 1832 with 1840, of the écrivaine George Sand and Armand Fallières which was Maire, General adviser and Député of Nérac in the years 1871 - 1880.
