Néphélé

Character of the Greek Mythology, Néphélé (in Greek old Νεφέλη / Nephélê , of νέφος / néphos , “cloud”) was a cloud whose Zeus was the creator. He created it with the image of Héra to mislead Ixion. Néphélé married Athamas, and from their union were born Hellé then Phrixos. Later, Athamas married a named princess Ino. The cloud was thus repudiated, being thus separated from his/her two children. Néphélée lived in the anguish which one Ino day killed Phrixos so that his/her own son inherited the kingdom. Its fears were founded. Not being able more to support the idea to lose his/her children, Néphélé decided to require of the assistance of the gods. Its prayer was heard by Hermes which sent a winged ram to the Golden Fleece of the name of Chrysomallos. Its mission was to remove Hellé and Phrixos of the hands of their mâratre.
