Nârada

Nârada (Sanskrit: नारद, nārada ) is a recurring character in Hindu mythology , where it seems at the same time like the prototype of wise (Rishi) and the messenger and the companion of the gods (deva). Nârada is also the inventor of the Vînâ, the first string instrument. It is often represented flying in the airs, a vînâ with the hand, entonnant songs with the glory of Vishnu.

According to the Mahâbhârata (I, 66,44), it is wire of Kashyapa and the one of the girls of Daksha. According to the Brahmavaivarta Purâna (I, 22,2), it is one of the ten Prajâpati among wire of Brahmâ and its name means donor ( da ) of councils ( will nara ). It has also the reputation to sow the discord everywhere where it goes, from where its Kaliprîya epithet, that which likes the quarrels.

Several works are allotted to Nârada (or its homonyms), among which the Nârada Parivrâjaka Upanishad (one of the major Upanishad), the Nârada Purâna (one of large the Purâna), the Nârada Bhakti Sutra (treated Bhakti), the Nârada Dharma Shâstra (summarized Mânava Dharma Shâstra ), the Nârada Shilpa Shâstra (treated of architecture) and the Sangîtamakaranda (treated musicology).
