The Canton of Saint-Gall (in German ) is a Swiss Canton.
History
Before 1803, it belongs to the Canton of Säntis.The flag saint-Welsh presents a Faisceau of the lictor (rods surrounding an axe, symbol of the authority of the Roman magistrates).
Geography
The canton is located in the North-East of the Suisse. It is surrounded in north by the Lac of Constancy, in the east it is separated from the Austria and the Liechtenstein by the valley of the Rhine. In the south it is bordered by the cantons of the Grisons, Glaris and Schwytz and in the west by the cantons of Zurich and ThurgovieThe two Rhodos-Interior demicantons of Appenzell and Appenzell Rhodos-External are completely surrounded by the canton of Saint-Gall.
The principal rivers of the canton are the the Rhine, the the Thur, the Linth and the Seez. Topology varies plains in north close to the valley of the Rhine and the lake of Constancy in the mountainous south. About a quarter of the canton is covered with forest and half of alpine grazing ground.
