History
- This commune is resulting from fusion, with the wire of time, several communes, Mirbel in 1831, Breuil in 1848, Canon in 1972.
- Canon, commune managed by priests, is one of the fulcrums used by Odon Stigand to build a strategic fortress at the edge of the Divine ones, at the request of 1050 of the duke of Normandy, Guillaume the Bastard one. Odon sets up around this fortress a baronnie, and he becomes the first baron de Mézodon - field or house of Odon. Towards 1050, of return of a crusade, it founds Mézidon. Very marked by the Christian mystic, it builds the priory Holy-Bores following the miraculous cure of the one of its sons. This one, second baron de Mézidon after death in 1066 of his/her father, continues to give a strong religious character to the region. Collegial, priories, churches develop, and all the Normandy runs in this area of miracles. Canon is especially known for its castle and its church. Built at the 17th century, the first castle was destroyed then rebuilt at the 18th century by Élie de Beaumont and presents a mixture of styles, traditional and English.
