Myth of the Border
The Mythe of the Frontière returns to the foundation of America at the time of the Colonisation of the grounds of the West of the the United States.
Until the 19th century, the Frontière ( the Frontier ) indicated with the the United States the line marking the limiting zone of the establishment of the populations of European origin in the context of the Conquête of the West. It thus indicates more a Front pioneer that a Frontière such as one generally hears it in France. Its existence played a very strong part in imaginary American and the construction even of the company and the identity American. Thus, of John Ford with John Wayne, it is the subject many Western S lyric, turned in the Années 1960.
The official existence of the border ended in 1890 when the Bureau of the census of the United States declared that the whole of the territory reserved for the United States was henceforth sufficiently controlled so that it can be exempted to study the movement towards the West of the population. After this date, one started to reflect on the role that the border in the collective history and the psychology of the Americans had played: in 1893, the historian Frederick Jackson Turner expressed its reflections on the subject at the time of the World Fair of Chicago. He affirmed that the spirit of the border had entirely modelled the american company. The colonists had lived in a virgin world that it had been necessary for them to conquer by showing an exceptional spirit of initiative and Innovation, the border had delivered them burden of the practice in " offering new experiments, by calling upon news Institution S and with news activités."
The New border
If the existence of the border appears to have been at the origin of an American model based on the Innovation, it can seem reasonable to endeavor to create new ones to return to the United States their last strength. This consideration justifies the use of the formula “ New Frontier ” in the electoral speech of J.F. Kennedy in 1960. America was to assign a new objective, a new barrier was to be surmounted: that of the lifelessness and the inequalities economic, the social fractures and racial.
