Myrmidons

The Myrmidons (in Greek old Μυρμιδόνες / Myrmidónes , of the old Greek μύρμηξ / mýrmex wants to say “ant”) are mythical people of Greece. In Iliade of Homère they take part in the Trojan War under the orders of Achille. Their ancestor éponyme is Myrmidon, a king of Phthie, wire of Zeus and Euryméduse, princess of Phthie. She was allured by Zeus whereas he had taken the form of a Fourmi. A myth etiologic on their origins basing itself on their etymology supposed - in old Greek the name was interpreted people-ant , of murmekes , ants - was mentioned for the first time in the Metamorphoses of Ovide, in which Myrmidons were simple hard-working ants on the island of Égine.
Myth of Ovide on the repopulation of Égine
Héra, queen of the gods, will make kill all the human inhabitants of Égine of Peste because the island was named in the honor of the one of the amantes of Zeus. The king Éaque, wire of Zeus and target of the ire of Héra like his mother, requested his father to repopulate the island. Since the ants of the island had not been touched by the plague, Zeus transformed them into people, Myrmidons. They are as wild and robust as ants and very honest with their chief. They carry the armor Brun E due to their origins. After one nondefinite period of time, Éaque exiled its two sons, Pélée and Télamon to have killed their half-brother, Phocos. Shovelful went in Phthie; a group of Myrmidons will follow it. The son of Shovelful, Achilles, will take them along to Troy to fight there in the Trojan War. They are described as honest servants of Achilles in the majority of the accounts of the war, of Homère to the Film Troy .
Another tradition maintains that Myrmidons do not have any fantastic origin, but are quite simply the descendants of Myrmidon, noble a Thessalie N married to Peisidice, the girl of Éole, king de Thessalie. Myrmidon was the father of Actor and Antiphus; the first invited Pélée to remain in Thessalie.
