The swarmed or ant-lions is Insecte S whose adult aspect recalls the Libellule S. They present a long abdomen and narrow wings folded up in roof to the top of this one at rest. They have short antennas out of bludgeon, They are twilight or night insects with the slow flight.

They are in general predatory and attack smaller insects, certain species nourish pollen. They attend hot and dry biotopes. One meets it forty species in Europe, primarily in the Mediterranean regions.

The larvae of certain species live at the base of funnels which they form in the sandy grounds, projecting sand on their preys to make them tumble down. In fact generally ants are captured by the powerful mandibles of the larva. At other species the larvae live in the litter or bury themselves and drive out on the ground.

At certain tropical species, the wings can reach 10 to 12 centimetres and have disproportionally lengthened posterior wings and widening at the ends, which evoke rackets.
