Biography

Before the Celtic music

Myrdhin (to pronounce, connected term with Merlin), Remi Chauvet, for the registry office, was born in 1950, costarmoricain of country Gallo, since originating in Dinan.

The Country of Dinan is thus the country of election of Myrdhin, the Merlin of today (not to be confused with the Merzhin group whose name was médiatisé in 2000). By his name, one guesses that Myrdhin finds also its inspiration very close from there, in Country of Brocéliande, country mythical of the Enchanter.

He has southern roots finistériennes (Scaër). Bathed in the classical music and jazz, it approaches the music traditional at 7 years. Its contacts with the traditional music lead it towards another repertory to the 14 years age.

Its beginnings

Any young person, tilting thus directly of the classical music (piano) in the traditional music, at the time of the rebirth of the Celtic toothing-stone, Remi Chauvet, takes the mythical name of Myrdhin (Merlin) and occurs on scene as of beginning of the year 70 while engaging completely in the musical career at 21 years (it composes Graal in the Cape Fréhel in 1971).

He obtains a true recognition while becoming Lauréat of the contest of Musical Youths from France, in Paris, in 1977.

Work

In addition to the interpretation of the traditional repertory, Myrdhin creates personal compositions enracinées in the Celtic culture. Its interpretations also borrow from the poetic repertory of Breton author of the country gallo (Angele Vannier).

Since 1975, it is one of the rare harpeurs to be played on cord toothing-stone metal pinches. He plays on traditional toothings-stone, rather bardic but also on electro-toothing-stone.

To date, in addition to 30 years of career, it recorded about thirty albums while carrying out an international career.

To the toothing-stone, he adds sometimes also flutes and percussions with the assistance of pol. Huellou (with its Irish flutes or Japanese women in bamboo) and David HOPI HOPKINS (with its original percussions).

Tradition without forgetting an opening to the other cultures and influences musical. This has been translated for a few years by its participation in the group Afro Celts sound System. Myrdhin also occurs, with Zil, in the duet Ars Celtica (Fréhel album left in 2000).

In 1984, Myrdhin takes part in the creation of the International Contest of Celtic Toothing-stone of Dinan. Thereafter, this demonstration was structured and packed while becoming an international center of meeting, C.R.I.H.C with a annual festival. These International meetings of Celtic Toothing-stone , are organized each summer, mid-July, in Dinan. It is the occasion in concerts, conferences, exposures, workshops and training courses and also of contests intended for the musicians of the repertory for Celtic toothing-stone.

It also was at the origin of creation into 2003 of a resource center in the form of a Maison of the Toothing-stone ( Ti year delenn ), in Dinan.

Myrdhin published or wrote in various works on the toothing-stone and the Celtic music: musics of the Celtic countries (ED. Ouest-France in 2001), Anthology of the toothing-stone, the toothing-stone of the Celts (ED. tannery in 2001).
