Myra

Myra (or Myre ) is an old town of Lycie on the river Myros, located on the site of the current Turkish city of Demre in Anatolia.

Myra exists since, but it is mentioned in known writings only from. The city was one of the principal members of the Confédération Lycienne.

Myra is especially known for its necropolis, which is made up like Telmessos, of rupestral tombs bored in the cliff, which one dates from the O C the tombs are decorated with a representation either of death, or of his/her parents or of its friends.

Famous characters

  • the Bishop of Myra: called Saint Nicolas, he lived at the 3rd century at the time Byzantine, is associated with the Father Christmas.
