Myocardium

The myocardium is the muscular fabric ( myo- , muscle) of the Cœur ( - cards ). Other fabrics are the Endocarde (inside, a specialized Endothélium) and the Péricarde (layer of conjunctive Tissu surrounding the heart). The myocardium is composed of specialized cardiac muscular cells which do not resemble any other muscular fabric of the body. In particular, these cells are intétanisables, which means that they are unable of prolonged contraction. Moreover, these cells are in electric continuity the ones with the others, which allows a total contraction of the heart during the systole. Nerve S. -->

In fact the coronary arteries take care of the blood contribution of the myocardium.

Diseases of the myocardium

Pathologies reaching the myocardium are called Cardiomyopathie S.
