Myassichtchev M-55
The Miassichtchev M-55 is a stratospheric plane of research of the Russian aeronautical manufacturer Miassichtchev.
History/Description
Identified at the origin in 1982 by the American reconnaissance satellites as single-seat spy plane of high-altitude “Rows” and baptized then name of Code NATO Mystic , this Biréacteur Bi-poutre with right wings, currently marketed as a plane of stratospheric research is able to carry a payload of approximately 1.500 kg made up of sensors. It is known to exist in two versions. The first of the two prototypes, called M-17 Stratosfera (`Mystic-A') made its 1st flight in 1988. It is propelled by only one engine Rybinsk RD-36-51V of 68,6 kN push, an evolution of the turbo shaft power plant of the Tupolev You-144 ST. M-55 Geofizika (Mystic-B) is equipped with two engines Perm/Soloviev PS-30-V12 of 49 kN Poussée assembled side-by-side behind an elevated cockpit placed in a fuselage with the nose more lengthened. Its total scale is less important.
The role of Mystic-B officially consists in collecting samples of the environment during missions in high-altitude. The company praises its capacities of endurance on site like equal to 4 hours with 20.000 Mr. Another alternative of M-55 is announced as being under development with engines installed with the root of the aerofoil in a conventional fuselage equipped with a Empennage out of arrow. The two Mystic-A prototypes, which were followed from two Mystic-B and two Mystic-B of preproduction, flew already in 1992.
