My Rachel Cousin

My Cousin Rachel is a novel written by Daphne of Maurier in 1951.

Summary

An English young man, Philip Ashley, learn that his/her cousin, Ambroise Ashley, with whom it is closely bound, has just married at the time of a voyage in Italy with a mysterious widow: Rachel. Jealous, Philip hates already his/her new cousin.

And the day when Philip receives a letter of Ambroise saying to him that he suspects his wife of poisoning it, the young man decides to avenge costs that the death of his/her cousin costs.

Philip receives at his place Rachel. But it is not the woman whom he of time had thought so much. It ends up falling in love with it. It assembles projects with it, until the day when he will be confronted with reality…

Characters

  • Philip Ashley : 24 year old young man, living in Cornouailles since always and manager of a farm.

  • Ambroise Ashley : cousin of Philip, died in forty years of the continuations of a mysterious disease whereas it had just married in Rachel.

  • Rachel Ashley : already widowed of certain Cosimo Sangaletti, Rachel is again only found after the death of Ambroise. Character initially attaching, it will attract himself the love of Philip.

  • Rainaldi : strange friend and adviser of Rachel.

  • Mr. Kendall : godfather of Philip and friend of Ambroise, it does not grant any confidence to Rachel.

  • Louise Kendall : friend of childhood of Philip, it would wish to be able to make her friend lucid in connection with Rachel.
