MyDoom.A
MyDoom.A or Novarg.A is a Computer virus which is propagated by the emails or the service P2P of Kazaa. The first infections took place the January 26th 2004.
The virus is also called: Mimail.R or Shimgapi . It affects the Operating system Microsoft Windows.
Once the infected computer, it is automatically sent to all the address book under false identities, with random objects (Hi, Test, Mailer Demon failure, etc) and installs a Backdoor in the file system.
This worm does not scan only the address book, but which it also carries out a scan hard drive in the search of addresses of email. It also will invent addresses towards a field (
Certain messages have a dispatch date solidified at the 12/11/2003. The weight of these messages is approximately 22 KB. The principal goal of this virus seems to be to allow the remote control of a very great number of machines, for example to be able to send many junk email S. In addition, the virus is programmed to harm the group SCO, software publisher, until the February 12th, by an attack of refusal distributed of service.
“If the quantity of emails is looked at, Mydoom exceeded Sobig.F and became the most important virus attack ever known”, indicated to the AFP Mikko Hyppoenen, person in charge of the antiviral search for F-Secure.
To protect itself effectively from these attacks, it is advisable to install a Anti-virus software daily updated and to use a listor of emails (who on standby posts the list of the emails on the waiter) in order to make the sorting between the good grain and the ryegrass.
A version B, born the January 28th, would attack Microsoft. The international firm offers 250 000 $ of reward for any information leading to the arrest of the author of the virus. SCO (of which the Web site is aimed by the attacks of this virus and editor of Caldera) offered the same amount for the same goal.
A misadventure of this virus, Doomjuice , called MyDoom.C by certain companies of computer security and Microsoft, appeared the February 9th, uses the data-processing transport infected by the two preceding versions of the virus to be propagated. It would seem that Doomjuice was conceived by the same people as MyDoom. It aims also to submerge the site of Microsoft of requests.
A new named version MyDoom.F was discovered the February 23rd 2004.
