Muskegon
Muskegon is the seat Comté of Muskegon, in the American State of the Michigan. It is on bank of the Lake Michigan. The Lac Muskegon is located at the north of the locality. History
The area was populated by the Amerindian S Ottawas and Pottawatomis. The word Muskegon comes from the language of Ottawas and means marshy river . French charts dating from the end of the 17th century mention Masquigon river . Jacques Marquette crossed the area in 1675. The trapper Edward Fitzgerald, the first European to have lived in the area, died there in 1748. The settlement really began only in 1837.Nowadays, Muskegon is an important university center, cultural and tourist. The exploitation of wood occupies a dominating place. When Chicago was destroyed by the terrible fire of the 8 October 10th 1871, the city was rebuilt with wood coming from Muskegon.
